We as people, and henceforth realtors and agents tend to be sheep. I think I have even coined us as sheople in an earlier post.

What do I mean? Well we often will follow the "wisdom of crowds" without thought of consequence. Instead of finding and then doing what the very best online marketers do. Often times we make judgments based on what the majority is doing. Unfortunately, the majority does 6 home buying or listing sides a year.

Yet, critical decisions about your real estate business is often based on what your competitor is doing. Even though most of your competitors suck at selling property.

Often times, I have found it is best to go outside of ones own industry to help define and create my own business. It helps to learn from other non-related business models as they do not have our industries delusions, prejudices and thought constrictions.

As an example, Spider Juice Technologies is often considered an SEO firm. I have found it necessary to expand that notion to one of Lead Optimization or LEO. Thus, putting the focus on what really matters.

Often times, I will say about a top position for a coveted key word, " That and 50 cents will get you a cup of coffee". Putting the focus on the desired result, or most wanted action of your website. More targeted buyer & seller leads!

Thus, thru these learning's one can find unique ways to add value and de-commoditize the publics perception of your business.

So what are some simple and specific ways to make a bigger splash with your marketing?

As usual I will illustrate with a story.

Yesterday, I got a misdirected email from a guy who had just interviewed with a big company. I own a domain that is similar to the one he interviewed. In fact, it is off by one letter. I have warned the company and in fact said I would give up the domain for them (being the heck of a guy that I am :-). They never responded. Thus, I get their email. Heavy financial stuff too. I am sure their clients would not appreciate that. But hey, that is another story.

So this guy sent me his thank you note thru email for his interview!

Are you kidding me?

I use this as a lesson in what not to do, to make a point. Everyone, is emailing, so it is a natrual to just lazily send a thank you.

Why not send a real thank you card? Since he more than likely would be the only one sending it, he would make a big impression.

I know what you may be thinking. Who has time to wait for the mail? How about dropping it into the mailbox as you exit. Have it pre-written, or write it out in your car?

When noone is really mailing, snail mail is an explosive way to easily be remembered.
